Keel Laid for Hybrid Commissioning Service Operation Vessels for M/s. Pelagic Wind Services Ltd. at Cochin Shipyard Limited

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) laid the keel of the state-of-the-art Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) named “Pelagic Walu” on 12th December 2024. The vessel is first of the two vessels being constructed for the Cyprus based Pelagic Wind Services Ltd.

The keel for the vessel, was laid by Mr. Andre Groenweld, CEO of M/s. Pelagic Wind Services Ltd. in the presence of Mr. Sreejith K N, Director (Operations), Mr. Harikrishnan S, Executive Director (Shipbuilding), senior officials of M/s. Pelagic Wind Services Ltd., Cochin Shipyard Ltd., Classification Society M/s. DNV and other stake holders attended the function physically at Cochin Shipyard Limited.

The hybrid-electric vessel is also fitted with a large 2800 kWh Li ion battery pack for enhanced operational efficiency and emission reduction. The vessel is prepared for Methanol fuel operation in the future. These enhancements establish the vessel as a pivotal asset in advancing the renewable energy sector, highlighting its vital role in supporting the achievement of global sustainable energy objectives. The vessel, with a length of 93 meters and a breadth of 19.5 meters, is constructed based on the Kongsberg UT 5520 MH design, which has been optimized to enhance safety, operability, and seakeeping performance, while also reducing fuel consumption. The vessel is to accommodate total 120 personnel including the windfarm technicians with DNV comfort class notations.

This project reflects CSL’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration, while simultaneously strengthening its position as a leading destination for the construction of specialized, next-generation vessels
