NIFT Convocation 2024 and Exhibitions

National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar hosted its convocation for the Class of 2024 on 6th  December, 2024.  

The academic procession was led by Smt. Sunaina Tomar (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary (Higher and Technical Educaiton), Government of Gujarat, is a Chief Guest for the occasion accompanied by the Prof. Dr. Sudha Dhingra, Dean (Academics) and Ms. Sinju Manajan, Head (AA), Director NIFT Gandhinagar, Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Mr. Vishal Gupta, CAC, all CCs, and faculty members.

The convocation commenced with the Lighting of the lamp, “Sarva Dharma Prarthana” & and “Saraswati Vandana”. Director, NIFT Gandhinagar Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood delivered the welcome address and presented the Academic Report. Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood mentioned in his academic report that the Class of 2024 includes 180 undergraduate students and 69 postgraduate students, bringing the total number of graduates to 249 (207 Female and 49 Male) who have completed their academic journey and are prepared to take on industry challenges while contributing to its growth.

Director NIFT Gandhinagar, Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, stated emphasizing goal-setting, passion, and determination, encouraged students to embrace practice, positivity, and self-improvement while avoiding procrastination and negativity. He stated that Concurrent with its academic pursuits, Campus has initiated a range of activities, and some of the noteworthy endeavours and accomplishments of NIFT Gandhinagar Campus are:

G20-Themed Fashion Shows: Organized two grand fashion shows emphasizing sustainability (Mission LiFE) and India’s cultural and artisanal heritage, witnessed by G20 dignitaries from all member nations.

Strategic MoUs and Collaborations: Signed partnerships with institutions like EDII, NID, and ATIRA to promote research, entrepreneurship, and artisan skill development under initiatives such as One District One Product.

Leadership in Major Events: Played a pivotal role in global and national platforms like FABEXA Fair 2024 and Vibrant Gujarat, showcasing the Ministry of Textiles' key initiatives.

International Sustainability Conference: Hosted a conference on sustainability with discussions on Brand Bharat, Viksit Bharat @ 2047, and entrepreneurship for India’s growth.

Enhanced Industry-Academia Collaboration: Bridged academic learning with real-world applications through industry visits, live projects, guest lectures, and craft promotion workshops.

Successful Placements: Achieved a 91% placement rate with the highest salary package of ₹24.5 LPA, attracting top recruiters like Reliance Retail, Tata Trent, and Uniqlo.

Vibrant Cultural Engagement: SDAC clubs fostered creativity, sustainability, and cultural diversity through tree planting, open mic events, and celebrations of Indian festivals.

Global Exchange Opportunities: Enabled students to gain international exposure through exchange programs with prestigious institutions like FIT New York and ENSAIT, France.

Recognition for Hindi Promotion: Earned appreciation from the Parliamentary Committee on Rajbhasha for promoting Hindi in institutional and administrative activities.

Faculty Excellence in Research: Faculty members contributed to industry collaborations, published research papers, and conducted training on topics like sustainability and design thinking.

Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Director expressed that your presence here is a testament to your hard work and determination, and he congratulated on significant achievement. He emphasized the importance of taking a moment to acknowledge and express gratitude for the invaluable contributions of your faculty members and, most importantly, your parents.

Without their unwavering support and guidance, this day of celebration would not have been possible. He invited everyone to give a well-deserved round of applause to the parents and faculty members for their immense dedication.  On such an auspicious occasion, it is also essential to remember the blessings of the Almighty. Prof. Sood highlighted how fortunate we are to experience this moment, made possible through divine blessings. As Jagrati Mishra, a faculty member, pointed out, this is an especially proud moment as we bid farewell to many daughters of NIFT, with 85% of the candidates being women. It is truly a day to celebrate the exemplary spirit of women.

Prof. Sood extended his congratulations further, wishing the graduates success as they step into the professional world and enter a New India—a nation filled with dreams, opportunities, and aspirations.

He reminded everyone that India is now the fastest-growing economy globally, having recently surpassed the UK to become the fifth-largest economy. With projections from international organizations like the International Monetary Fund indicating that India is on track to become the third-largest economy by 2030, he emphasized the graduates' good fortune in embarking on their careers in this transformative era. He underscored the unique advantage of a youthful and dynamic workforce, with 66% of India’s population under the age of 35, making this an era of immense growth, innovation, and limitless possibilities.

Thereafter, the Convocation Pledge was administered to the Graduates by the Dean (Academics), NIFT Prof. Dr. Sudha Dhingra.

She said that “Graduation is not just an end, but also the beginning of new opportunities and responsibilities. The speaker acknowledges the efforts of Mr. Sameer Sood in bringing talented students to the convocation ceremony, which serves as a motivation to work hard, study well, and achieve similar success in life.  The speaker shares a personal experience from starting their career, particularly when joining the civil services. Life presents challenges at every stage, including professional hurdles, personal struggles, and even marriage. Success doesn't come solely from professional achievements but also from how well you balance your personal life, especially for women. The first priority should always be to stay happy, choosing partners wisely. Life isn't just about professional success; it's about finding equilibrium between your career and personal relationships. Complaining won't solve problems, so adopt a positive attitude and focus on doing your best without expecting immediate rewards. Consistent effort will lead to happiness and success. The speaker urges developing good habits, maintaining a healthy routine, and engaging in activities that bring joy. Find a supportive partner, accept their imperfections, and build a life of mutual adjustment and understanding. Beauty lies in adjustments, understanding, and happiness. Beauty lies in adjustments, understanding, and happiness. Wishing you immense success in both professional and personal lives, stay happy, balanced, and keep a positive outlook. Remember to value and care for your parents, who have been your strongest pillars of support. The degree and award distribution ceremony started in the presence of the dignitaries.  In total 249 students from the streams of Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design, Accessory Design, Fashion Management and Fashion Technology and Master of Design graduated.

Total 180 students were conferred with their Bachelor's Degrees and 69 students received their Masters Degrees. The department-wise details of the class of 2024 are as follows:

The convocation was followed by exhibition on textile sustainability and Craft design projects curated by Textile Design Students. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Smt. Sunaina Tomar (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary (Higher and Technical Educaiton), Government of Gujarat, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Campus Director NIFT and Prof. Dr. Sudha Dhingra, Dean (Academics) and Ms. Sinju Manajan, NIFT Delhi, Head (AA), students and faculty memebrs.
