Ministry of Mines Wins Gold for Excellence in Display out of 49 Ministries at IITF 2024
Over 80,000 Visitors Explored Innovation, Technology, and Heritage at the Mining Pavilion

The Ministry of Mines Pavilion has been awarded the First Position (Gold) for excellence in display in India International Trade Fair (IITF), 2024 out of 49 Ministries, drawing over 80,000 visitors. The pavilion highlighted the Ministry’s contributions toward achieving Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The pavilion offered a dynamic blend of innovation, heritage, and sustainability, captivating visitors of all ages. Key highlights included:
- Geological Heritage: Rare dinosaur fossils and eggs displayed India’s rich prehistoric past, offering a fascinating glimpse into the Earth’s ancient history.
- Contribution to Ram Mandir: The Ministry of Mines, through its CPSEs like Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), made significant contributions to the construction of the Ram Mandir. HCL delivered 70,000 pure copper strips and 775 copper wire rods, each 99.99% pure electro-refined copper, for joining the rocks in the Ram Mandir construction. Additionally, the National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM) certified the stones used for the Ram Lala statue and the temple structure, underscoring India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
- Sustainability Initiatives: The Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) introduced bottle and can recycling machines that rewarded participants with vouchers. This approach combined sustainability with a fun, interactive experience.
- Women Empowerment: Self-Help Groups (SHGs) supported by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) achieved over ₹10 lakh in sales within just 14 days, showcasing their impactful role in grassroots economic development.
Industry Leader Showcases:
- Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL): Visitors experienced cutting-edge zinc products and a virtual underground mining operation using a Tele-remote Driller, highlighting technological advancements in mining.
- Hindalco Industries Limited: Hindalco shared its forward-looking five-year strategy, focusing on sustainability and innovation, positioning itself as a leader in the mining and metals sector.
CPSE Contributions by the Ministry of Mines:
- NALCO (National Aluminium Company Limited): Showcased its significant role in advancing India’s self-reliance in the mining sector, contributing to national development and making India Aatmanirbhar.
- MECL (Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited): Presented cutting-edge technologies for mineral exploration, reinforcing the importance of innovation in unlocking India’s vast mineral potential.
- HCL (Hindustan Copper Limited): Highlighted its role in India’s landmark mining projects, including its significant contributions to the Ram Mandir.
Visitor Engagement and VR Experience Zone:
A special VR experience zone captivated children and adults alike, allowing them to virtually experience underground mining operations. Daily long queues at the simulator zone demonstrated the overwhelming interest in interactive technology, with many visitors enjoying the immersive, game-like experience that combined education and entertainment.
On 14th November 2024, the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, inaugurated the pavilion in the esteemed presence of senior officials, including Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, and Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal. Later, on 25th November 2024, the Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, visited the pavilion. Both ministers praised the Ministry’s forward-looking initiatives and lauded the synergy between CPSEs and private stakeholders in driving innovation, sustainability, and empowerment within the mining sector.
The Ministry of Mines Pavilion at IITF 2024 has set a benchmark for showcasing the mining sector's role in contributing to a self-reliant, sustainable, and progressive India.
