The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Bengaluru celebrated National Press Day 2024 today with an engaging program that brought together media professionals from prominent organizations including Doordarshan, All India Radio (Akashvani), Indian Express R and other leading media houses. The event, held to honour the critical role of the media in society, gathered 13 key participants, including press club members, journalists, and reporters.
The celebration highlighted the media’s essential role in promoting awareness about quality standards and their impact on consumer protection, safety, and national development. The event served as a platform for discussing the vital connection between media and quality standards in fostering a safer, more informed society.
Shri Vijayaveeran K, Scientist 'E', Director, and Head of BIS Bengaluru, delivered a comprehensive briefing on the activities of BIS, focusing on the role of the Bureau in setting and ensuring quality standards across various sectors. He also introduced the BIS Care App, a user-friendly platform that empowers consumers to access information on BIS-certified products and services
Shri S. P. Hiremath, former Scientist 'F' and Senior Director, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the role of media as a catalyst in disseminating messages about quality and standards, educating the general public about their significance in everyday life. Shri Hiremath underlined how effective media communication can foster a deeper understanding of how quality impacts safety and national progress. He also gave a detailed insight into hallmarking process of gold and silver jewellery for ensuring purity.
The program concluded with a lively Question and Answer session, where the media representatives engaged with the speakers to gain further insights into BIS's initiatives and the role of quality standards in consumer safety and national development.
The event underscored the collaborative effort between the media and BIS to enhance public awareness on the importance of quality standards and their direct impact on everyday life.
