Vigilance Awareness Week Observed at CVRDE, Avadi

Vigilance Awareness Week is observed in the last week of October every year, to create awareness among employees to fight against corruption and to ensure integrity in public administration. This year, Vigilance Awareness Week 2024 was observed in CVRDE from 28th October to 3rd November 2024 and theme for this year has been “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity”. Various activities are organized as part of 3 month Vigilance Awareness Campaign from 16th August to 15th November 2024.
As part of this Campaign, a special Invited talk is organized at CVRDE on 8th Nov 2024. Shri. J Rajesh Kumar, Director, CVRDE, delivered the opening address. Senior scientists / officers / staffs were present in the function. Shri. K. Shankar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Avadi Commissionerate has graced the event with his presence. In his talk, he remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and that his birth anniversary week is celebrated as Vigilance awareness week every year. He has highlighted how Corruption is the major threat for our country and how we have lost to British due to corruption in the Battle of Plassey. He said that Corruption leads to deceit which in turn leads to defeat and it erodes the confidence of Public on the organization.
Shri. K Shankar has talked about the causes of corruption and ways to mitigate them. He has also highlighted how technology breakthroughs has given way to transparency and integrity. He has compared the operation of public services such as Railway ticket counters, Banks, Public welfare department were functioning without transparency during manual operation and how the advancements in online platforms have made the same services faster and fair. He also spoke about the role of RTI in providing required information to the public.
Shri. K Shankar also spoke about the importance of delivering punishment for anti-ethical behavior and misconduct. He talked about the punishment should be severe, swift and with certainty to prevent such offences in future. He also spoke about the need to be vigil as a citizen against the online frauds which are prevalent now. He has created awareness against various frauds like FedEx Frauds, Digital arrest, Investments in fraudulent accounts etc. His talk was very inspiring and informative.
