ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Sikkim, conducted a comprehensive series of training programs on "Organic Nutrient Management of Rajmash" across East Sikkim's villages, including Yangthang, Lossing, Sudunglakha, Lingtam, and Namrang.
286 enthusiastic farmers participated in the interactive training, aimed at equipping them with the latest organic farming techniques, focusing on Rajmash, a significant regional crop.
The training, supervised by Dr. Prakash Sharma (Head-KVK), was led by Dr. Smruti Ranjan Padhan (Subject Matter Specialist-Agronomy) and supported by Dr. Janak Kumar Singh (SMS-Plant Breeding) and Dr. Boniface Lepcha (SMS-Horticulture).

Dr. Padhan emphasized the importance of organic crop nutrition, particularly for small and marginal farmers, highlighting the benefits of organic fertilizers like farmyard manure, compost, vermi-compost, green manure, and bio-fertilizers.
Hands-on demonstrations on organic compost preparation and application helped bridge the theory-practice gap.
Dr. Singh provided information on suitable Rajmash varieties for East Sikkim's agro-climatic conditions, while Dr. Lepcha discussed integrated crop management practices and biological pest control methods.
Dr. Akanksha (SMS-LPM) and Dr. K. Swapna Rani (SMS-Plant Protection) addressed farmers' queries, recommending sustainable solutions.
The training concluded with an open discussion, where participants appreciated the practical approach and expressed enthusiasm for adopting organic nutrient management practices.
ICAR-KVK plans to conduct follow-up field visits to monitor progress.
Farmers from Namranga and Yangthang expressed gratitude to the KVK team for the informative session.
