BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS, CHENNAI BRANCH OFFICE & ExNoRa INTERNATIONAL JOINTLY ORGANIZED SAPLING PLANTATION DRIVE AT CHENNAI TODAY

Bureau of Indian Standards is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.

 

Plants are very important for mankind. They are highly essential resources for our long term survival. We not only rely on them for food, medicine, purified air and shelter but also trees enthrals the beauty of the environment, guards us against global warming, conserves water, preserves soil and controls climatic changes to an extent.

 

Bureau of Indian Standards Chennai Branch Office, as a part of World Standards Day 2024 events, jointly organised a sapling plantation drive with EXNORA International today at Sree Shanthi Anand Vidyalaya Thirumudivakkam, Chennai Today.

 

During the Event, Smt.G.Bhavani, Sr.Director & Head (BIS Chennai Branch Office) welcomed the Participants and informed that the theme of World Standards Day - A Shared Vision for a Better World: Standards for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and stressed that its high time that the residents of this planet start contributing to a greener and beautiful Earth.

 

The participants also listened to various insights from Shri S Indra Kumar, Home ExNoRa President and Special Address by Shri Vivekanand Arumugam, Chairman, Shree Shanthi Anand Vidhyalaya, Thirumudalivakkam. Both the speakers emphasised that planting saplings can help solve ecology problems because of their ability to restore degraded ecosystems, produce food and medicine, and provide environmental and economic benefits. Trees outside forests (TOFs) will have an increasing role in reducing degradation and will assist in sustainable development.
