The National Sample Survey Office under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India is mandated to obtain comprehensive and continuing information relating to socio-economic, Demographic, Industrial and Agricultural statistics through a sample survey on a countrywide basis. It has been instrumental in developing a strong Database that has helped the Central and State Governments in Development Planning and Policy Formulation. The prominent users of NSSO data are R.B.I., Academic Institutions, various ministries and other departments at Central and State levels.

The incorporated services sector is very important sector in the Indian economy on account of its contribution to GDP, Regular data pertaining to their detailed economic and operational characteristics, employment, problems faced etc. are not available with industry-wise or State/UT wise break-ups. The absence of a regular national level survey covering various sub-sectors of the non-agricultural sector is one of the limitations in the current Indian data collection scenario, which is actually an obstacle in understanding the granularity of this important sector. Meanwhile, PMO also advised NSO to conduct an annual enterprise survey using Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), established under the aegis of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017, as sample frame.

The principal objective of Annual Survey of Service Sector Enterprises (ASSSE) is essentially to develop a comprehensive database of the services sector of the country and given the importance of the services sector, the survey is designed to capture the key characteristics such as gross value added (GVA), fixed capital, capital formation, number of persons employed and other important features pertaining to the units belonging to services sector not only at State level but also at different industry level. The Survey of Phase-2 will commence from 1st of November 2024 and will continue up to January-2025.

As part of preparatory work before the launch of a survey a Zonal (Southern & Western) level workshop is organized for the officers, who subsequently impart training to the field functionaries. The workshop of ASSSE Survey-Phase-2, will be held at "Hotel Davanam Sarovar Portico Suites", Hosur Rd, opp. Madiwala Traffic Police Station, Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560068, on 17-10-2024 Considering the importance of this national endeavor, you are requested to inform all the newspaper/electronic media under your jurisdiction to publish the news coverage of the training workshop in their esteemed daily newspaper/electronic media. Your role in creating public awareness in data collection by NSO officials for the survey will go a long way in achieving the larger goal of "Data for Development".
