Tamil Nadu's Transformation: 10 Years of Central Boost to Infrastructure

Union Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan, has said that in last 10 years, the Central Government has given priority to Tamil Nadu and implemented various infrastructure development projects, that led to massive infrastructure boost in the state.
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Union Government is observing Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, a two week long programme across the country. As a part of this, Dr. L. Murugan participated in a tree planting event held under the campaign, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at DD Tamil TV premises on September 28, 2024. He then felicitated the sanitation workers and distributed prizes.
Addressing the media, Dr. L. Murugan said that Swachhta Hi Seva is being observed across the country from 17th September to 2nd October 2024. He said that the country has been implementing the Swachh Bharat Mission in a commendable manner.
He said that the Swachh Bharat Mission has significantly improved sanitation facilities in the country and after coming to power in 2014, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has constructed toilets in all schools under this Mission, thereby strengthening the health infrastructure.
With the constant support of the Central Government, under the Swachh Bharat Mission, through the construction of toilets, the country has attained the status of Open Defecation Free (ODF). He said the mission has been a great success with public participation.
Dr. L. Murugan further added that as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva movement, Prime MInister Shri Narendra Modi had called for planting a sapling in the name of mother and based on that, saplings have been planted at the campus of DD Tamil. He also urged the people to take active part in this movement.
He added that our country has achieved tremendous growth in the last 10 year and has advanced to 5th position from 10th position in terms of economy. He said infrastructure has played a key role in this progress.
The Minister also said that industries, roads, ports, Airports and Railway stations have developed considerably, especially in Tamil Nadu. He said more than Rs. 6300 crores has been allocated to the Tamilnadu in this year’s Railway Budget, for which work is in progress.
He highlighted, the indigenous Vande Bharat trains that are manufactured in Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF) under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, are being operated all over the country. While the Chennai and Trichy airports have been substantially improved and handling more passengers, very soon the Coimbatore airport will also be expanded soon, he said.
The Amrit Railway Stations project in Tamil Nadu includes Chennai Egmore, Katpadi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Rameswaram and other railway stations. The Minister informed that these railway stations are being modernised. He further stated that as the old Pamban railway bridge was declared unsafe, the new bridge has been constructed using state-of-the-art technology and a trial run has been conducted. Soon, it will be opened, the Minister said. He further said that the Chennai – Vishakapatnam industrial corridor and Tamilnadu Defence Industrial Corridor will boost states’ economic development.
Recently Tamilnadu Chief Minister Shri M. K. Stalin met the Prime Minister and made several demands and the Prime Minister will take appropriate action soon, the Minister assured.
