Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Shri. Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Akurli bridge on Western Express Highway on September 10 2024.  Earlier, the Minister monitored progress of construction by constantly interacting with the implementing agencies and traffic police to enable extended work hours with minimal traffic disturbances. The Minister on the occasion of the inauguration said that this bridge is a Ganesh Chaturthi gift to not just North Mumbai, but the entire city.

The newly inaugurated bridge will be a major relief for lakhs of Mumbaikars as a major traffic bottleneck on an arterial road of Mumbai will be resolved by the completion of this work. The inauguration will bring dual benefits to the citizens. They will save time as well as fuel. The Minister has further instructed MMRDA and traffic police to undertake traffic operation and widening of Akurli underpass in such a way that it is completed by first week of October without causing major inconveniences to traffic. Akurli road is one of the most important road joining Kandivali railway station to Western Express Highway & part beyond the highway to Lokhandwala complex in Mumbai.
