Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) Achieves Record 640,000 TEUs in August 2024; 19.22% increase in export traffic compared to Aug 2023

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has handled an unprecedented 6,39,336 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of container traffic in August 2024. This not only marks a new all-time high for monthly container throughput at JNPA but also surpasses the previous record of 6,03,217 TEUs set in July 2024. The port's performance reflects a robust growth trajectory, supported by a 19.22% increase in export traffic compared to August 2023.
Key Highlights for August 2024:
- Record-Breaking Performance:
- BMCT and APMT achieved their highest-ever monthly container volumes with 202,071 TEUs and 192,137 TEUs, respectively.
- JNPA's total cargo handling reached 7.89 million tonnes, reflecting a 15.14% increase from August 2023.
- Enhanced Rail Connectivity:
- The port handled 593 container rakes, transporting 94,466 TEUs, showing an increase from 550 rakes and 89,694 TEUs in the previous year.
Year-to-Date 2024-2025 Highlights:

- From April 2024 to August 2024, JNPA managed 2,930,700 TEUs and 37.42 million tonnes of total cargo, up by 12.73% and 6.20%, respectively, from the previous year.
- Container rake handling also saw a rise with 2,657 rakes transporting 422,465 TEUs, compared to 2,591 rakes and 415,287 TEUs during the same period last year.

- Hosted visits by BAI Team One and delegates from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
