Sikkim University conducts Workshop on UG Curriculum Development under NEP 2020


State Education Minister Shri Raju Basnet Graces Sikkim University's NEP 2020 Workshop

Sikkim University successfully organized a workshop on the preparation of the Undergraduate (UG) Curriculum in alignment with the Learning Outcomes- based Curriculum Framework (LOCF) of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The workshop, organized by the NEP Committee of Sikkim University, was held at the Conference Hall of the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Metro Point, Gangtok on 27th August, 2024.

The inaugural programme was graced by the presence of Shri Raju Basnet, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Parliamentary Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim,  as the Chief Guest, Shri Bhim Thatal (SCS), Director of Higher and Technical Education and Special Secretary, Senior Prof. Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University as the Chairperson of the inaugural programme. The programme was attended by members of the NEP Committee of Sikkim University, principals of affiliated colleges, and members of 31 functioning UG subject committee members from various affiliated colleges under Sikkim University.

This workshop marks a significant achievement in Sikkim University’s ongoing efforts to align its academic standard with the national vision of educational reform. The event provided a platform for educators, policymakers, and administrators to engage in meaningful discussions and set the stage for a transformative UG curriculum. Prof. Yodida Bhutia, Chairperson of the NEP Committee, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the vital role of updating the UG curriculum to align with NEP 2020. Shri Bhim Thatal (SCS), Director of Higher and Technical Education and Special Secretary provided insightful perspectives on the practical challenges and opportunities in implementing NEP 2020 across educational institutions in the state. His address set the tone for a collaborative approach to curriculum development.

Shri  Raju Basnet Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Parliamentary Affairs Department   delivered a compelling and inspiring speech that underscored the government's strong support for Sikkim University in its mission to drive educational innovation in the region. His address highlighted the crucial role of NEP 2020 in advancing educational progress in Sikkim, adding significant value to the program and reinforcing the commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and development.

Senior Prof. Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, chaired the program and delivered an inspiring presidential address, focusing on the university's dedication in fostering academic excellence and its proactive role in implementing the New Education Policy 2020 for holistic development of the society. He also highlighted the importance of NEP having inter- disciplinary approaches to make a student self- reliant and well educated.
