Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New & Renewable Energy, today laid the foundation stone for the highly anticipated EV Battery & Charger Test Facility at the NTH-RRSL campus in Jakkur, Bengaluru. This marks a significant advancement in India’s commitment to sustainable and innovative mobility solutions.

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, the Director General of NTH, and major players in the EV battery and charger manufacturing industry across India.

In his address, the Minister highlighted the strategic importance of this facility, particularly for the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) industry in South India, especially in Bengaluru. The establishment of this testing facility in close proximity to key players in the EV battery and charger manufacturing sector is expected to be a game-changer for the industry. In addition to Bengaluru, NTH is also set to establish similar facilities in Mumbai and Kolkata very soon.

Shri Joshi emphasized that the new facility will provide invaluable support to these manufacturers by offering comprehensive testing and certification services that ensure the highest standards of quality and safety. This facility will also accelerate their development cycles by allowing them to conduct crucial tests locally, rather than relying on facilities in other regions or countries.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted key projects such as the Pamban Bridge, metro rail projects, the Bullet Train project, the Jal Jeevan Mission, drone certification, and others, where NTH has played a critical role in testing.

Shri Joshi also noted that the availability of such a high-quality testing facility will provide a significant competitive edge to Indian manufacturers in the international market, ensuring that their products meet global standards and are well-positioned for export.

The Union Minister also spoke about the broader environmental and economic impact of the facility. “In addition to the goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy, India is aiming to produce 500 GW of power by 2030. Establishing an EV battery testing facility in the government sector is a significant milestone in ensuring the Earth remains safe for future generations”, he said.

He expressed confidence that the National Test House, with its expanded capabilities, will become a hub for innovation and excellence, setting new benchmarks for the EV industry.
