The 70th National Film Awards for the year 2022 were announced today, celebrating outstanding achievements in Indian cinema, recognising excellence across a wide range of categories including feature films, non-feature films, and writing on cinema.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw from the Jury Chairpersons:  Chairperson of Feature Film Jury, Rahul Rawail, Chairperson of Non-Feature Film Jury, Nila Madhab Panda and Chairperson of Best Writing on Cinema Jury, Gangadhar Mudalair. Union Minister of State, I&B, Dr. L Murugan, Secretary, M/o Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju, and Joint Secretary (Films), Vrunda Desai was also present.

Highlights of Marathi Films at the 70th National Award

Marathi cinema has made a significant mark at the National Film Awards 2022, with several films receiving accolades in various categories. Notable winners include:

Feature – Film Category

  • Best Marathi Film: VAALVI (The Termite), directed by Paresh Mokashi and produced by Mayasabha Karamanuk Mandali and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., has won the Best Marathi Film and has been awarded the Rajat Kamal with a cash award of Rs 2,00,000/-.

Non-Feature – Film Category

  • Best Biographical / Historical Reconstruction / Compilation Film: AANAKHI EK MOHENJO DARO (Yet Another Mohenjo Daro), produced by de Goan Studio & Ashok Rane Productions and directed by Ashok Rane. The film, which explores historical themes, has been honoured with the Rajat Kamal award and a prize of Rs 2,00,000/-
  • Best Arts / Culture Film: VARSA (Legacy), Marathi film produced and directed by Sachin Balasaheb Suryawanshi, has also been recognised with a Rajat Kamal award and a shared prize of Rs 2,00,000/- The award is being shared with Kannada Film, ‘RANGA VIBHOGA’ (Temple Dance Tradition; Producer & Director : Suneel Narasimhachar Puranik
  • Best Documentary and Best Narration: MURMURS OF THE JUNGLE, directed by Sohil Vaidya, has won the Rajat Kamal award along with a prize of Rs 2,00,000/-. The film’s narration by Sumant Shinde also earned him the Rajat Kamal award for Best Narration/Voice Over, with a prize of Rs 2,00,000/-.
