A comprehensive training and demonstration program on "Postharvest Value-addition in Millet" was successfully conducted today, August 16, 2024, at Martam BAC, bringing together 50 women participants from five local Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The multi-institutional collaborative effort involved CAU-CAEPHT, Ranipool; ICAR-KVK, East Sikkim; and the Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim.
The program aimed to encourage women to take the lead in entrepreneurship development, focusing on agricultural products through value addition. Dr. A. Anuradha Devi, Assistant Professor (CAU-CAEPHT), inaugurated the training, highlighting its objectives and the associated project "Customization, Enhancement & Development of Digital Solutions for Empowerment of Citizens of North East India (M4Agri)", funded by Digital India Corporation, Government of India.

Expert sessions followed, with Dr. Angam Raleng, Assistant Professor (CAU-CAEPHT), discussing millet's nutritional value and potential value-added products. Smt. Bhawana Subedi, Assistant Project Manager (RDD-GoS), motivated the SHG members to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in organic millet-based products, emphasizing their market potential.
A hands-on demonstration by Smt. Anushree Gogoi, Subject Expert (Home Science, KVK, East Sikkim), showcased the preparation of value-added millet products, with participants actively engaging in the process.
This empowering initiative aims to equip women with the knowledge and skills to venture into entrepreneurship, promoting agricultural value addition and contributing to the region's economic growth.
