CHENNAI DIVISION CELEBRATES 78TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

Chennai Division celebrated 78th Independence Day today (15.08.2024) at RPF Parade Ground, Ayanavaram, Chennai. Shri. B. Vishwanath Eerya, Divisional Railway Manager hoisted the National Flag and took the salute at the parade consisting of RPF contingents including Women Platoons and St. John Ambulance brigade.

The program was attended by Shri Tej Partap Singh, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Shri Ankur Chauhan, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Senior Officers & staff and their family members, and Representatives of Labour Unions and Associations of Chennai Division, Southern Railway.

Addressing the gathering, The Divisional Railway Manager expressed pride in Indian Railways and its dedicated workforce playing a pivotal role in Nation building.

Commending the performance of Chennai Division in his keynote address, the Divisional Railway Manager briefly outlined the various performance highlights of the Division.

Excerpts from Divisional Railway Manager's speech:

· The Chennai Division had achieved the highest ever revenue of Rs.4513.07 crores during the last financial year and Rs.1485 crores during the current financial year up to July 2024. The revenue of Chennai Division is 37.24% of the total revenue of Southern Railway. For the second consecutive time in the history of the Chennai Division, the annual total revenue had crossed Rs.4000 crores and achieved the Railway Board targets.

· Chennai Division has achieved Freight loading performance of 10.081 MTs during the last financial year and 3.200 MTs during the current financial year up to July 2024.

· Contract for construction and operation of Gati Shakthi Multi Modal cargo terminal at Arakkonam with state-of-the-art Multi modal facilities has been awarded in favour of M/S JSW infrastructure Ltd which involves an investment of Rs 50 crores.

· In-spite of carrying major infrastructure works affecting train movement, the punctuality of Mail / Express trains during the current financial year has improved and is around 90%.

 

· Chennai Division has operated 19761 special trains to various destinations during the last financial year and 7577 special trains till July 2024 during the current financial year.

· To ease the movement of road users 12 manned Level Crossings have been eliminated by providing Limited Use Subway/Road under Bridge during the last financial year.

· To enhance the reliability of the signaling system to ensure smooth train operations, Electronic Interlocking system has been commissioned in 9 stations and MSDAC dual detection track circuits commissioned in 15 Auto sections in the recent past.

· To enhance disaster management skills and review disaster preparedness, relief & rescue operations, a Joint Mock Drill was conducted by Chennai Division at Tondiarpet in June this year.

· RPF team has rescued 352 run away/left behind children and have saved lives of 6 passengers during the recent past.

· Sportspersons of Chennai Division namely Miss. D.Hemalatha CCTC/ Chennai Fort railway station, Shri. Abhishek Yadav Pro CCTC Chennai Fort railway station, have excelled in various International and National sports events and brought laurels to the nation. Miss. Meenalatha, CBS/ Chennai Egmore has been nominated as the Coach for the Indian Women's Basketball Team in the FIFA 3X3 Under-18 World Cup held in Hungary in August 2024.

· Southern Railway Swimming Team Triumphed at the 64th All India Railway Aquatics Championship organized by WRSA in Mumbai in July 2024, securing 4 Gold medals, 5 Silver medals, and 8 Bronze medals.

· There is notable reduction of grievances in Rai Madad from 5670 grievances in May 2024 to 3716 in July 2024.

· Chennai Division has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HDFC Bank on 13.08.2024 introducing a comprehensive tailor made salary account for the benefits of railway employees and their families with the following benefits.

  1. Free Life Insurance cover of Rs. 10 Lakhs to the employee’s family when the
  2. Employee dies due to normal death.
  3. Free Personal Accident Death cover of Rs. 1 Crore
  4. Free Air Accident Death cover of Rs. 3 Crore etc.

· Southern Railway Women’s Organisation, of Chennai Division is actively promoting welfare measures among railway employees, families, and other downtrodden people.

Colorful dance and other cultural programmes were performed by the staff of Chennai Division with patriotic zeal and fervor.

The iconic station buildings of Dr MGR Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore, among others, were beautifully illuminated at night in commemoration of 78th Independence Day celebrations. Through the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, staff of Chennai Division enthusiastically participated in the 78th Independence Day Celebrations and posted their selfie with our National Flag. Public were also encouraged to actively participate in the 78th Independence Day Celebrations through the campaign. Videos and messages of 78th Independence Day portraying patriotism were displayed in Public Information Display systems at major stations like DR.MGR Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore and Tambaram.
