Dr. Radhakrishnan Committee on Transformative Reforms in Accreditation was approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. As per the recommendations, the country needs to adopt a simple, trust-based, credible, objective and rationalized system for approval, accreditation and ranking of HEIs. The Committee has also recommended that all HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) shall be part of the new accreditation system.

NAAC proposed the launch of Reforms in two phases-Binary Accreditation Framework (BAF) and Maturity Based Graded Levels (MBGL). In the first phase, it is proposed to launch the Binary Accreditation in the next couple of months.

More than 50% of institutions in India are located in non-urban areas, mostly in the rural and remote locations. Also, the GER in higher education is relatively low in the non-urban areas. The government of India stresses the need to focus on these institutions while reforms are launched in accreditation.

Therefore, Dr. Radhakrishnan Committee has emphasized the need to focus institutions that are located in “rural and remote locations” with a view to mainstream such institutions in the new accreditation process. With a view to understand the challenges faced by the institutions which are located in the rural and remote locations, NAAC is organizing a Workshop on 5th August 2024 @NAAC Bengaluru for the principals of the institutions drawn from Aspirational districts and other rural locations from all over the country. The workshop will be held at NAAC conference hall, nagarbhavi, bangalore from 10 am to 5pm.
