ICAI holds Convocation Ceremony at 13 locations across the Country Today


Around 10,000 newly Qualified CAs Awarded Certificates of Membership

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a Convocation Ceremony on July 7, 2024, to award certificates of membership to new members and felicitate rank holders of the CA examination. The convocation was organized at 13 different locations (Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ghaziabad, Indore, Jaipur, Ludhiana, New Delhi, Chandigarh) across the country and around 10,000 newly enrolled Chartered Accountants received their certificates during the convocation.

The convocation commenced concurrently across all locations. The Chief Guest, Shri TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman Aarin Capital & Manipal Global Education and CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President of ICAI, delivered a live address from Bengaluru to all participants.

In Delhi, CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, Vice-President of ICAI, led the proceedings along with Central and Regional Council members. At other locations, Central and Regional Council members took the stage to award certificates of membership to the newly enrolled members.

While addressing the gathering in Bangalore, Shri TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman Aarin Capital & Manipal Global Education congratulated newly enrolled Chartered Accountants for achieving this tough milestone.

Accountants, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, President, ICAI while addressing the newly enrolled Chartered Accountants said,

  1. Membership and Growth:

I’m delighted to announce that our organization, the world’s largest accounting body, has achieved remarkable milestones. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

  1. Gender Diversity:

We take pride in our commitment to gender diversity. Among our members, 30% are female, reflecting our dedication to having one female member for every three members, without any reservations. Additionally, 57% are male, and 43% are female.

  1. Embracing Technology:

ICAI remains at the forefront of innovation. We’ve embraced new technologies such as forensic accounting, sustainable risk management, and international taxation.

  1. Exam Frequency and Professional Development:

To enhance accessibility, ICAI has decided to hold CA intermediate and Foundation course examinations thrice annually.

Our commitment to research and innovation continues. Recently, we formed the “AI in ICAI” committee to explore leveraging AI for professional development.

  1. Historic Achievements:

This year, ICAI achieved a historic milestone by registering 138,000 students for the foundation course.

We’ve also developed a separate GPT (General Proficiency Test) for students, available free of cost.

  1. Global Connections:

While 700 ICAI members are part of other accounting bodies worldwide, only three members from other accounting bodies are part of our Institute.

Notably, 42,000 ICAI members work outside India.

Indian Chartered Accountants (CAs) are often referred to as the financial soldiers of India.

  1. Global Recognition:

Worldwide, Indian CAs are highly regarded for their expertise.

  1. Innovations by ICAI:

ICAI made history by being the first accounting body globally to issue guidance on remote audits, introduced on March 20, 2023.

  1. Advice to New CAs:

New CAs are encouraged to enhance their technical and communication skills to maintain the Institute’s global excellence.

  1. Equal Rights in Singapore:

The President of the Institute of Singapore acknowledges that Indian CAs residing in Singapore for over six months will have equal rights as that of Singaporean Chartered Accountants.

In Chennai, CA Rajendra Kumar P Central Council Members and Convocation Coordinators and CA Sripriya K, Central Council Members and Convocation Coordinators along with CA Revathi S Raghunathan, Vice Chairperson of SIRC of  ICAI, CA Arun Ayyampalayam Venkatesan, and CA Rekha Uma Shiv, Regional Council Members, of SIRC of ICAI convocated around 1000 members at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai, was attended by approximately 3000 participants across two sessions.

The ICAI conducts convocation twice every year to award Certificate of Membership to newly enrolled members as bonhomie to the CA fraternity. The convocation is intended to bring young members of the profession under the umbrella of the fraternity of Chartered Accountants and foster a sense of belongingness to the profession and the institute.

Over the years, the role of ICAI has evolved significantly to meet changing needs and emerging challenges. Today, ICAI has expanded greatly, creating a vast pool of Chartered Accountants who are indispensable across various sectors of the country's economy, industry, business, and governance. Through rigorous training and demanding examinations of exceptionally high standards, only individuals demonstrating exceptional knowledge, intelligence, experience, and proficiency in the subjects covered by Chartered Accountancy qualify as Chartered Accountants.
