The much-anticipated renovated Artillery Museum was dedicated as the Kumaramangalam Artillery Museum and was inaugurated on 01 July 2024 at Artillery Centre, Nasik. The grand opening, coinciding with the birth anniversary of General Paramasiva Prabhakar Kumaramangalam, Distinguished Service Order (DSO), MBE, FRHS, former Chief of Army Staff, was a momentous occasion graced by the presence of Mr Subarayan Behram and Mrs Parvati (son and daughter of General Paramasiva Prabhakar Kumaramangalam), Lieutenant General S Harimohan Iyer, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal**, Commandant School of Artillery and Senior Colonel Commandant, Regiment of Artillery and Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Director General of Artillery and Colonel Commandant Group-VI, 33 veterans and civil/ military dignitaries were also present. 

The Kumaramangalam Artillery Museum, named in honor of General Paramasiva Prabhakar Kumaramangalam, is one of its kind in the country. It stands as a premier destination for tourists visiting Nasik, showcasing a rich history of Artillery and its significant contributions to India’s military heritage. 

The museum’s journey began when the foundation stone was laid on 16 November 1968 by General Paramasiva Prabhakar Kumaramangalam himself and was inaugurated on 27 September 1970 by Lieutenant General Candeth, Param Vishisht Seva Medal. Over the years, the museum has undergone significant renovations to incorporate modern methods of preservation and visitor engagement, aligning with sustainability and ‘Go Green’ initiatives. 

To enhance social connectivity, the museum now features various selfie points, allowing visitors to capture and share their experiences. The main foyer boasts of inspiring displays of valour, including the legendary stories of Umrao Singh, Victoria Cross in World War I and the famous Tangail airdrop during liberation of Bangladesh. 

Another highlight of the museum is the Evolution Gallery, which presents the development of Artillery from 400 Before Christ to the contemporary era of rockets and missiles. Visitors can explore separate galleries dedicated to the stories of bravery and sacrifice, covering major conflicts from World War I to the Kargil War. Additional galleries illustrate the contributions of Gunners in counter-insurgency operations, sports and operation in the harsh terrains of the Siachen Glacier. 

The museum also houses a Roll of Honour, commemorating the Gunners who have served the nation, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten. The external space of museum has numerous Artillery pieces and they come alive during an engaging Light and Sound Show. 

One of the major attractions is a 3D movie on Kargil War, offering visitors an immersive experience that bring to life the challenges and resilience of the armed forces in the rugged terrain. During the inauguration, the Director General of Artillery, Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal stated “We are opening the doors of the Kumaramangalam Artillery Museum to the public. This Museum is not just a repository of artifacts, it is a living testament to the courage and commitment of our Gunners. Through this museum, we aim to inspire future generations and foster a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made in defence of our nation.”

The Kumaramangalam Artillery Museum is a must visit for military enthusiasts and all tourists visiting Nasik, providing a deep dive into the illustrious history and valour of the Indian Artillery.
