Celebration of 18th Statistics Day in NSSO

Statistics Day is celebrated on 29th June every year since 2007 at national level in recognition of the notable contributions made by (Late) Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the field of Official Statistics and Economic Planning of the country in the post-independence era. This year 18th Statistics Day was celebrated by Field Operations Division of National Sample Survey Office in association with DES, Gandhinagar & Data Processing Centre of NSSO in NSSO Bhawan, Ahmedabad. 

The ceremony was inaugurated by the esteemed guests invited on the occasion.  Shri A J Parmar, Assistant Director of Regional Office, FOD delivered the welcome address.  Shri S. K. Bhanawat, DDG & Regional Head, NSSO(FOD), RO, Ahmedabad delivered the key note address and enlightened the audience with the contributions and achievements of Late Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis in the field of Statistics. Shri Shakti Singh, Director, DPC; Dr. Rakesh Pandya, Director, DES; Smt. L R Kakkad, Director, Directorate of Evaluation and Shri S S Suthar, Director, Directorate of GSIDS, Govt. of Gujarat also graced the ceremony with their precious presence. The theme of the Statistics Day this year was, ‘Use of Data for Decision Making’. Dr. Sukhdev Mishra, Scientist, NIOH made presentation on the theme.  Ms. Sushma Pathak and Ms. Bhavna Patel from DES presented on the key indicators of Gujarat.

The Interns participating in the Internship for the year 2024-25 also presented on the theme. The objective of celebrating Statistics Day for creating public awareness, especially among the younger generation, on the role and importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation for the development of the country was well met by the presence of the students and interns. Shopkeepers of shops who are providing valuable information on monthly basis for compilation of Consumer Price Indices were also felicitated by presenting certificates for their contribution in the policy making of the nation.
