Posted On: 26 JUN 2024 5:20PM by PIB Jaipur

In alignment with the International Day  against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, the  Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Jodhpur organized an anti-drug walkathon in  Jodhpur. This event aimed to heighten awareness about the dangers of drug  abuse and the importance of collaborative efforts to combat this global issue.

The walkathon, which took place on 26 June 2024, witnessed the  participation of approximately 2,000 individuals, including officers and  jawans from central and state agencies such as the CRPF, Indian Air  Force, ITBP, BSF, CBI, and Rajasthan Police. In addition, NCC and Scouts  cadets, volunteers from Brahma Kumaris and other NGOs, as well as  local citizens, joined the rally to demonstrate their commitment to a  drug-free society.

Sh. Rajendra Singh, Police Commissioner of Jodhpur, highlighted the  extensive efforts being made to combat drug abuse. He remarked, "The  Narcotics Control Bureau and local law enforcement agencies have organized  a 14-day awareness campaign against drug abuse, concluding on June 26.  Operation 'Kavach,' a joint initiative by the NCB and local police, continues to  make significant strides. Numerous cases have been registered over the past  year, and stringent actions will be taken against those involved in the sale and  purchase of drugs."

Sh. Ghanshyam Soni, IRS, Zonal Director of NCB Rajasthan,  emphasized the critical situation in Jodhpur. "The primary reason for  this walkathon is the increasing prevalence of Ganja and artificial drugs  in Jodhpur. The awareness campaign against drug abuse, conducted  from June 12 to June 26, aims to break the drug supply chain by NCB  Jodhpur. Under Operation PRAYOGSALA, in collaboration with ATS  Gujarat, NCB intercepted drugs worth Rs 300 crores from MD labs.  Under Operation SHANKAR, a significant haul of 850 kg Ganja was seized from Jodhpur. Furthermore, NCB is keeping a vigilant eye on freeing the  State Capital Jaipur from drugs under Operation KAVACH. Under  Operation TRINETRA, NCB along with State police will launch massive  operations to nab proclaimed offenders and absconders in narcotics  smuggling cases," he stated.

The event also featured key figures from various sectors, reflecting a  broad societal commitment to tackling drug abuse. Sh. Ashok Kumar, DIG,  RTC, CRPF, Jodhpur, underscored the potential of the youth in achieving  global success. "Our youth hold immense promise, and drug addiction can  severely hinder their progress. It's crucial that we address this issue head-on,"  he noted.

Colonel Baldev Singh Chaudhary echoed these sentiments,  emphasizing the collective responsibility to foster a drug-free environment. "It  is our duty to ensure a drug-free society and raise awareness about the  adverse effects of drug addiction. Initiatives like today's rally are vital steps  towards resolving this issue," he added.

In addition to the walkathon, the NCB Jodhpur has been proactive in  organizing numerous drug awareness programs across prominent  government institutions and universities, including IIT Jodhpur and AIIMS  Jodhpur, as well as various colleges, as part of the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat  Pakhwara.' These programs aim to educate the public, especially the youth,  about the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of staying drug-free.

The anti-drug walkathon in Jodhpur on International Day Against  Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking exemplifies the commitment of  various agencies and the community to combat drug abuse. Through  continued awareness campaigns and strict enforcement actions, the  Narcotics Control Bureau and its partners strive to create a healthier,  drug-free society.
