Press Council of India Invites claims from eligible Associations of Persons for 15th Term Reconstitution

The Press Council of India is a statutory quasi-judicial authority constituted by an Act of Parliament i.e. the Press Council Act, 1978, with the mandate for preserving the freedom of the press and maintaining and improving standards of press in India.

In pursuance to section 5 (1) of the said Act, composition of the Council consists of a Chairman and twenty-eight (28) other members and as per section 6 (1) of the Act, the Chairman and other members shall hold office for a period of three years. The term of present Council is to expire on 05.10.2024. Accordingly, the Council is to be reconstituted for its 15th term.

The Chairman of the Council in terms of sub section 4 of section 5 of the said Act read with Press Council (Procedure for Notification of Associations of Persons) Rules, 2021, invites the claims from the eligible Associations of Persons from all over the Country for the purpose of Notification in the Official Gazette. The claims in the sealed envelope shall reach the Chairperson, Press Council of India on or before 24th July, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. An advertisement shall be released on 09.06.2024 in newspapers pan India.
