Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) Jointly Organize Export Awareness Seminar in Dimapur, Nagaland

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, and the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) organized an export awareness seminar under the Niryat Bandhu Scheme of DGFT at the Sovima Craft Centre, Dimapur today. The seminar aimed to enhance export knowledge and capacity among local artisans, entrepreneurs, and NGOs.

The seminar featured key speakers including Ms. Jesmina Zeliang, Regional Convenor of EPCH (NER) and an eminent exporter; Shri Harish Kesari, Consultant (DGFT); Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Handicraft Promotion Officer, O/o DC (Handicrafts), Kohima; Ms. Anini Nyenga, Consultant at the Investment Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN); Mrs. Asangla, Deputy Director, District Industries & Commerce, Nagaland; Daniel Domesh, System Manager, Department of Posts, Government of India; and Shri Bhaskar Baruah, Project Officer, EPCH. The event was attended by 50 participants, including artisans, entrepreneurs, and representatives from NGOs and the North East Multipurpose Development Society.

Ms. Jesmina Zeliang, in her welcome address, urged the entrepreneurs of Nagaland to seize the business opportunities and export marketing platforms offered by EPCH. She emphasized the importance of understanding export-related issues such as market selection, product adaptation, quality standards, and compliance requirements.

Shri Harish Kesari provided an overview of the support initiatives offered by DGFT, explaining export procedures and strategies. He highlighted DGFT's efforts in the Northeast region to convert entrepreneurs, small manufacturers, and artisans into exporters.

Shri Bhaskar Baruah presented an in-depth overview of the export process, discussing the various backward and forward linkages and export marketing initiatives beneficial for handicrafts exports. Shri Sanjeev Kumar explained the schemes offered by the Ministry of Textiles for entrepreneurs and artisans, focusing on capacity building and marketing access support. Ms. Anini Nyenga detailed the schemes available to support new entrepreneurs and artisans in scaling their businesses.Mrs. Asangla offered insights into the initiatives of the Nagaland government to develop the business environment for entrepreneurs and artisans.Shri Daniel Domesh explained the Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra initiative, which supports logistics facilities for new entrepreneurs and artisans to ensure smooth consignment delivery.

 

The seminar aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of exporting among potential exporters and e-commerce exporters. Through interactive sessions, presentations, trainings, and discussions, participants gained insights into export procedures, policies, and opportunities, empowering them to navigate global trade more effectively. The seminar also facilitated collaboration among various stakeholders and government departments to promote handicrafts and handlooms exports from Nagaland.

The DGFT Niryat Bandhu Scheme aims to use international commerce and e-commerce exports as catalysts for economic development. By supporting new exporters and equipping them with the necessary information and skills, the program seeks to boost India's export competitiveness and accelerate export growth.

About EPCH

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts is a nodal agency promoting handicrafts exports from India. It aims to create a brand image for the country's diverse and skilled artisans producing home, lifestyle, textiles, furniture, and fashion jewelry& accessories products. In the fiscal year 2022-23, handicrafts exports amounted to Rs. 30,019.24 Crores (US $ 3,728.47 Million).
