Celebrations of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2024

Controller of Communication Accounts, Karnataka Circle is the field unit of Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, GoI and is proud to join the global community in celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2024. This year’s theme, “Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development,” underscores the importance of leveraging telecommunications and information technology to foster sustainable development and bridge the digital divide.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, observed annually on May 17, commemorates the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

Key Achievements and Initiatives of this office:

  1. Revenue Assessments in FY 23-24:
  • Revenue Wing of this office is License Fee (LF) Section which is mainly involved in the Collection of License Fee (LF) / Spectrum Usage Charges (SUC) from the varied licensees / Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). This office caters to 207 decentralised licensees and 5 Telecom Service Providers and has collected Rs. 1082.85 Crores as Telecom Revenue Collection for FY 2023-24.
  • For the betterment of ease of business, 2nd edition of LF Booklet was released on 13.06.2023 by this office, which serves as a handy book and quick reference guide for the licensees. Telecom Outreach Programme (TOP) is being conducted quarterly for hand-holding the new licensees as well as to redress the grievances of the existing licensees. Immersion Program was held for UL-ISP and UL-VNO licensees of Southern Zone CCAs at this office to understand the compliance burden faced by both kind of licensees and have a comparative analysis.
  • In addition to the TOP & Immersion Program being conducted, special meetings were organised for motivating and encouraging the licensees. To name a few, Grievance resolution meeting with licensees for redressing their issues / queries, One to one VC for timely submission of audited documents, Special Campaign scheduled for cancelled / expired / terminated licensees to increase the submission rate further, to encourage completing their due payments and submission of pending documents, for issuing NDC etc.
  1.  Pension Programs and Disbursement in FY 23-24:
  • For enabling all pensioners to give their life certificate digitally through “Jeevan Pramaan Portal”, O/o Controller of Communication Accounts, Karnataka Circle conducted “Sampannm Sahayogi Program” during the year 2023-24. In that program, representatives from all Pensioner’s Association of Karnataka were trained on usage of “Jeevan pramaan Portal” so that they could train pensioners all over Karnataka. This program invited appreciations from pensioners.
  • In digitized environment, to enlighten pensioners about cybercrimes and frauds, O/o Controller of Communication Accounts, Karnataka Circle conducted training on 07.03.2024. During the training session, the pensioners were cleared their doubts on various online issues. The pensioners found it very useful in the present digitized environment and gave positive feedback accordingly.

  1.  USOF Projects & Schemes:
  • BharatNet: BharatNet is one of the biggest rural telecom projects in the world, implemented in a phased manner to all Gram Panchayats (approximately 2.5 lakh) in the country for providing broadband connectivity to all remote villages. In Karnataka, 6251 Gram Panchayats are being connected through the BharatNet project. A total of Rs. 108.27 crores have been disbursed in a timely manner for Fiber Leasing, Space and Infra and O&M charges under this project in the FY 23-24 through USOF’s CSMS package.
  • 354 Uncovered Village Scheme: The scheme was planned for provisioning of mobile services in 354 uncovered villages of India by installing mobile towers through the agency M/s Reliance Jio Infocom Limited (RJIL). In Karnataka, 3 villages, namely Eklaspur, Kumaralli and Suralabi are covered through this project. A total of Rs. 24.4 Lakhs subsidy has been disbursed in a timely manner under this project in the FY 23-24 through USOF’s PMIS tool.
