Celebrating World Telecommunication & Information Society Day 2024

Controller of Communication Accounts, Gujarat Circle This office is a field unit of Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, GoI and is proud to join the global community in celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2024. This year’s theme, “Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development,” underscores the importance of leveraging telecommunications and information technology to foster sustainable development and bridge the digital divide.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, observed annually on May 17, commemorates the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

Key Achievements and Initiatives of this office:

  1. Revenue Assessments in FY 23-24:
  • This office is entrusted with the work of Revenue Assessment of all Telecom Licensees of Gujarat. License Fee and Spectrum Usage Charges are assessed for Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and Internet Services Providers (ISPs) of Gujarat through the Unified Digital Portal SARAS along with ensuring compliance to License Agreement Conditions for development of a vibrant Telecom Ecosystem in Gujarat. This office earned a total revenue of 1274.5 Cr. in the Financial Year 2023-24.
  1. Pension Disbursement in FY 23-24:
  • This office is the Pension Sanctioning and Pension Disbursement Authority for about 30,000 Telecom Pensioners of Gujarat Circle. In the FY 2023-24, Paid approx. Rs.1030 Cr. pension, Rs.38.2 Cr. commutation and Rs.132.6 Cr. DCRG to pensioners through SAMPANN, which is a landmark Unified Digital Portal for Pension Sanctioning, Disbursal and Grievance Redressal of pensioners.
  1. USOF Projects & Schemes:
  • BharatNet: With aim to provide hi-speed broadband connectivity to rural and remote areas across India, BharatNet ensures that over 2,50,000-gram panchayats have access to digital services. In Gujarat, 6734 Gram Panchayats are being connected through the BharatNet project. A total of Rs. 38.28 crores have been disbursed under BharatNet Project in the FY 23-24 through USOF’s CSMS portal.
  • 354 Uncovered Village Scheme:
    The scheme was planned for provisioning of mobile services in 354 uncovered villages in the border areas of India by installing mobile towers through the agency M/s Reliance Jio Infocom Limited (RJIL). In Gujarat, about 50 villages are covered through this project. A total of Rs. 5.94 crores subsidy has been disbursed under this Project in the FY 23-24 through USOF’s Unified Digital Portal PMI

    4. Digital India Programme:
  • This office had launched Program SAKHI- Skill and Knowledge Handing over Initiative for Women and Children of Anganwadis which aims for their Skill Development, Empowerment, and enhancing digital literacy.

    5. Events and Activities: To mark WTISD 2024, this office is organizing a series of events, including:
  • Quiz Competition:  An engaging quiz is being organized by this office to test and enhance the knowledge of participants on various aspects of Telecommunications and ICT.
  • Workshops and Seminars: Focused on digital literacy, cybersecurity, and the role of ICT in education and healthcare.
