Department of Pulmonary Medicine, AIIMS Nagpur conducted an awareness program on occasion of World Tuberculosis Day on March 24, 2024. The chief guest for the event was Dr (Prof) Prashant P Joshi, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Nagpur. Dr Manish Shrigiriwar, Medical Superintendent, Dr Rajashree Khot, Nodal officer TB centre, AIIMS Nagpur, Dr Meena Mishra, Head of department, Microbiology, Dr Meenakshi Girish, Head of department, Paediatrics, Dr Ravikant, Medical officer, District TB centre, Dr Srikant Malegaonkar and Dr Palanisamy V, department of Pulmonary Medicine were other dignitaries for the event.

Dr (Prof) Prashant P Joshi addressed the gathering regarding the global epidemic of tuberculosis, its treatment and prevention. The need to get tested if symptoms suggestive of TB are present and completion of treatment once tested positive was stressed by Dr (Prof) Prashant P Joshi. Various measures taken by government for achieving elimination of TB from our country by 2025 were made aware to the public. People gathered were enlightened regarding initiatives like Nikshay Poshan Yojana and Nikshay Mitra scheme by other speakers. Elimination of TB is a collective responsibility of Health care workers, patients, attenders and general public was spoken about.

Patients treated at the AIIMS TB centre were felicitated by the Executive director and these patients shared their experience with general public. The patient testimonials gave a positive impetus to the program and a slogan of "TB Harega Desh Jeetega" resonated the premises. The awareness program ended with vote of thanks from Mrs Vandana, TB Health visitor AIIMS, Nagpur with the theme of this year's World TB day "Yes, We can End TB”.
