On the eve of Diamond Jubilee celebrations at NIT-T, Dr. P. Vijay Shekar who is an intervention cardiologist, electrophysiologist, and device specialist from Apollo Hospitals, Trichy has delivered an expert lecture on "Diagnostic and Assistive Devices in Cardiovascular System" at Department of Instrumentation and Control Engg., NIT Tiruchirapalli. He has highlighted the importance of cardiac functions and discussed about the means of preventing heart problems.

He also insisted that one should take care of diet and physical exercise to get rid of heart issues. Further, he has discussed the role of conventional and advanced diagnostic and assistive devices such as ECG, Pacemaker, Defibrillator, Cardiac MRI and smart watches that helps in preventing and predicting the abnormal signs of heart. He has also emphasized the technological gap of these medical devices and motivated the participants to come up with novel engineering solutions. He has also pointed out that the technological can be addressed effectively by means of having collaboration between engineers and doctors.
