The Department of Social Work at the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) marked World Social Work Day on March 20, 2024, under the theme “Shared Future for Transformative Change”. The event featured esteemed guest speaker Prof. R. Nalini, Professor at the Department of Social Work, Pondicherry University.

The day commenced with an inaugural ceremony at RGNIYD’s seminar hall, with Dr. S. Kumaravel, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work at RGNIYD, delivering the presidential address. Special recognition was accorded to Prof. R. Nalini during the event, where she delivered a compelling lecture titled “Transforming Youth Towards Prevention of Substance Use Disorder”, providing valuable insights into tackling this critical issue among youth. The session was followed by an engaging question and answer session with the audience.

Highlighting the talents of social work students, the event also featured a poster competition award ceremony. Additionally, cultural performances, including street plays, mime, puppetry, and semi-classical dance, showcased the diverse roles and contributions of social workers, presented by students from the Department of Social Work.

The event garnered significant participation from students, researchers, staff &faculty members across various departments at RGNIYD, fostering a spirit of collaboration and commitment to social change.
