Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs forms Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

In the context of General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024 by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) of the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, New Delhi has been tasked with carrying out checks to prevent the flow of suspicious cash, illicit liquor, drugs/narcotics, freebies and smuggled goods to influence the electorates. Accordingly, Chennai GST Zone has formulated sufficient Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams in each Commissionerate covering the entire Districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in order to keep vigil over the entire jurisdiction and to stern the flow of illicit movement of goods which may be used to lure the voters during the Election Process. All the Teams will keep a watch on all the Warehouses located in their respective jurisdictions and authorised to prevent the stocking of Goods like sarees, white goods, Kitchen items, cash etc.

All the Commissionerates in Chennai GST Zone will be working in close co-ordination with various expenditure monitoring teams constituted by the CBIC and the law enforcement agencies constituted by the Election commission.

Control Room functioning 24X7 has been opened in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for this purpose. General public are requested to contact the below mentioned Control Rooms for any information pertaining to illicit movement of goods/valuables etc. during the election period.
