The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT), takes immense pride in recognizing Mr. Richard Sekar, a distinguished alumnus from the Class of 1983, with the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) in the category “Excellence to Service to Society” for the year 2022.
 

The award ceremony, acknowledged Mr. Sekar's exceptional contributions to society and the environment. Dr. G. Uma,Dean (Institutional Development & Alumni Relations), welcomed the
gathering and highlighted Mr. Richard Sekar's achievements. She also added that, NITT is incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated alumnus who inspire the next generation of innovators and social changemakers.

In her address, Dr. G. Aghila, Director, NITT, expressed her pride while she stated, “Mr. Richard Sekar's dedication to social good exemplifies the true spirit of a NITT alumnus. Some of the projects, which he supervised, serves as an inspiration to our current students and the wider community".

Mr. Sekar, a successful California-based entrepreneur, holds a B.E. (Honors) degree in Production Engineering from NITT (erstwhile RECT). Beyond his entrepreneurial ventures, Mr.Richard Sekar is a strong advocate for social good, exemplified by the innovative Truck Mounted Street Vacuum Cleaner currently benefiting the Trichy Corporation. In his acceptance speech, he expressed his deep gratitude to his Alma Mater, his fellow graduates- Class of 1983, and his family. Dr.Josephine, Associate Dean (Alumni Relations) delivered the vote of
thanks.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Richard Sekar collaborated with NITT's Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation (CEDI), where he conducted a comprehensive seminar for students, equipping them with valuable insights of starting businesses and achieving entrepreneurial success through socially responsible innovations.
