A Financial Literacy Programme under FLAREUP guidelines was conducted for the Self Help Group (SHG) of Sorok Shyampani GPU, Namchi Block of Namchi District on March 13, 2024. Smt. Sarbani Ghosh, Assistant Manager and Ms. Pema Lhamu Bhutia, Assistant facilitated the programme. The programme was attended by approximately 40 participants of different SHG groups.

At the outset, Smt. Sarbani Ghosh explained the developmental role of the Reserve Bank of India in spreading financial literacy. Further, she discussed the facilities available for SHG and its members from the banking sector. The participants were urged to avail loans and ensure timely repayment of loans to maintain a good credit score. Five commandments of Panchasutra were discussed and success stories of local SHGs were shared during the programme. She also sensitized the participants about cyber fraud.

Ms. Pema Lhamu Bhutia, discussed about the various social security schemes viz. PMJJBY, PMSBY, Ayushman Bharat and APY. She elucidated on the importance of each scheme and made SHG members understand the benefits of availing the schemes and informed them about the ‘Integrated Ombudsman Scheme’ of RBI. One street corner play (Nukkad Natak) was staged to spread the message on cyber frauds. Lastly, various queries raised by the participants regarding general banking related matters were addressed.
