Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System was introduced first in Green Line on October 11, 2023 at Sealdah Metro station. Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) developed this system which has already become popular among the Metro commuters. The facility was later extended to all the commissioned stations of the East-West Metro Corridor.
Till now 5,86,422 passengers used the Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System in this corridor.
Metro authorities are now thinking of using the backside of this QR Code Based Ticket for commercial purposes. This apart, spaces of soon to be opened stations of Orange Line and Purple Line will also be offered for commercial utilisation. Many organisations are keen to display their advertisements on these spaces in order to draw the attention of Metro commuters.
Metro authorities stated today that they are flooded with phone calls and queries of big corporate houses even before tendering of this proposal. In the coming days more and more big houses will be eager to display their commercials on Metro premises to reach the untouched section of the society, hopes the authority.
