Inauguration of Theme Pavilion by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon'ble Minister of Textiles & Commerce, at Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show 2024

The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, initiated in 2003 by Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India (who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat), has now become a highly appreciated international platform for fostering business connections, exchanging knowledge, and forming strategic alliances to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development. 

The government of Gujarat organised the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show 2024 with the theme "TECHADE" (referring to the decade dominated by technologies) and focused on championing service sectors. For this event, the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has nominated NIFT Gandhinagar Campus as the nodal agency to curate the Theme Pavilion for the Ministry's participation in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show 2024. Theme Pavilion promises to be a comprehensive and immersive experience for visitors. The pavilion, strategically located in Hall no: 7, P-5, spanning an expansive area of 221 sq.m., is a dedicated platform to showcase various initiatives and divisions under the Ministry of Textiles.

Theme Pavilion of the Ministry of Textiles will be inaugurated by  Shri Piyush Goyal, the Hon'ble Minister of Textiles; Minister of Commerce & Industry; Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Govt. of India, as announced by Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood. The event is scheduled to take place on January 10, 2024, at 7:30 pm, at the Helipad Exhibition Ground, Venue (Hall No. 7, P-5) during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show 2024 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in the distinguished presence of Ms. Tanu Kashyap, IAS, Director General-NIFT. Prof. Dr Sameer Sood, Campus Director, NIFT Gandhinagar, said that The pavilion would also feature insights into Bharat Tex 2024, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles Sector, PM MITRA Park, Handloom and Handicraft Sector and NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), which is providing visitors with a comprehensive overview of the Ministry's multifaceted activities.

  • Bharat Tex 2024:  The largest Global Textile Event in India:

Bharat Tex 2024 is India's most prominent global textile event, showcasing textiles, fashion, sustainability, and resilience. The event features exhibitions, knowledge sessions, and activities for stakeholders like policymakers, CEOs, exhibitors, and buyers. It features pavilions on sustainability, recycling, resilient global supply chains, digitisation, interactive fabric testing zones, product demonstrations, masterclasses by craftspeople, art jugalbandi, and a marquee event featuring international brands and designers.

  • PLI Scheme of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India:

The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the PLI Scheme for Textiles for MMF Apparel, MMF Fabrics, and ten segments of Technical Textiles with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 10,683 crore. This scheme and other measures like providing raw materials at competitive prices and skill development will herald a new age in textile manufacturing. The Technical Textiles segment is a new-age textile that can improve efficiency in various sectors like infrastructure, water, health, defence, security, automobiles, and aviation. The government has launched a National Technical Textiles Mission to promote R&D efforts, and PLI will attract investment in this segment.

  • DC (Handlooms) and DC (Handicraft):

DC (Handlooms) and DC (Handicrafts) are India's most significant unorganised economic activities, engaging over 35 lakh persons and employing over 25 lakh female weavers and allied workers. The sector contributes to nearly 19% of the nation's fabric production and boosts export revenue. Flagship Handloom Schemes include the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS), Handloom Weavers' Comprehensive Welfare Scheme (HWCWS), Weavers Mudra Scheme, and Yarn Supply Scheme.

  • PM Mitra Park of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India

PM MITRA Park's initiative for textile artisans emphasises the support and empowerment of skilled artisans. At the same time, the focus on infrastructure features the importance of building a robust foundation for the textile sector. The PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park scheme aims to establish parks in India by 2026-27, with a total outlay of Rs 4,445 crore. These parks will have an incubation centre, typical processing house, effluent treatment plant, and other textile-related facilities. An investment of Rs 70,000 crore into these parks can generate employment for about 20 lakh people, attracting FDI and improving the competitiveness of the country's textile sector.

  • National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT):

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a premier institution in India specialising in fashion education and research. NIFT offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various aspects of fashion, conducts research, collaborates with the fashion industry, organises events and fashion shows, promotes entrepreneurship, facilitates international collaboration, and assists in student campus placements. NIFT plays a vital role in shaping the future of the Indian fashion and textile industry by providing comprehensive education and fostering innovation.

The Theme Pavilion uses various mediums to enhance the visitor experience, including narratives, audio-visual aids, images, and static displays. It provides a nuanced understanding of the Ministry's initiatives, fostering appreciation for textile sector advancements. The exhibition is not just an exhibition but an educational platform, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the Ministry of Textiles, celebrate industry achievements, promote collaboration, and spark new ideas for textile innovation and development.
