Over 500 ex-servicemen participate in the Veterans' Day Parade at Marine Drive

Over 500 veterans including gallantry awardees from all three services marched in a Veterans day parade along the Marine Drive promenade on 07 Jan 24 to mark the upcoming Tri-Services Veterans Day. The Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Ramesh Bais flagged off the 3rd edition of the Armed Forces Veterans’ parade from the promenade opposite NCPA at Nariman Point, Mumbai.
Vice Adm Sanjay J Singh, the FOC-in-C Western Naval Command and senior officers from all three services were also present for the event. The Parade was organised by the Navy Foundation, Mumbai Chapter (NFMC) in association with the HQ Western Naval Command.
The Governor greeted the War veterans, Veer Naris and Ex Servicemen from the armed forces and walked a few steps with them as an expression of solidarity with them. Amongst the veterans who took part in the parade were Commander Vijay Vadhera (Retd), President of NFMC, Captain Raj Mohindra (Retd) aged 90 years, the former President of NFMC and Naik Deep Chand, who lost his legs during Kargil war.
On completion of the parade, a felicitation ceremony for the veterans was undertaken at NCPA. The Chief Minister, Shri Eknath Shinde, also visited the veterans and interacted with them.
The Tri-Services Veterans Day is celebrated every year on 14th January to honour their contributions and also marks the day in 1953 when Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army post independence, retired after glorious service to the nation. The parade also included participation by Army band, NCC and SCC cadets and was aimed at creating awareness amongst the citizens about the glorious contribution of the veterans in service of the nation.
