Telecom Regulatory Authority of India conducts seminar on 5G mobile technology

TRAI conducted a Seminar on “5G Mobile Technology, Deployment challenges, Use cases and Network Security” on 04 January 2024 at Chennai.
One of the important objectives of TRAI is to create awareness and safeguard consumer interests. Towards this objective, TRAI organizes consumer outreach programmes, regional workshops and seminars on issues of consumer interest.
TRAI’s mission is to enable growth of Telecom Sector in the country so that India play’s a leading role in emerging global information society. In this series, TRAI organized a seminar on the topic “5G Mobile Technology, Deployment challenges, Use cases and Network Security” on 04th January, 2024 through its Regional office, Hyderabad at Hotel Le Royal Meridien, Chennai.
Shri B. Praveen Kumar, ITS, Advisor, TRAI, RO, Hyderabad welcomed all the participants and has explained about the growth of telecom sector in the country and role of TRAI in promoting the Telecom growth in India. He has mentioned about the importance of 5G Technology in respect of enhanced speed, low latency and it’s applications in different sectors like agriculture, Education, Health and growth of economy. He has also stressed the importance of security during the course of adoption of 5G Technology. He has mentioned about TRAI regulations and recommendations of TRAI to Government of India. He has also mentioned that 5G technology should reach common man for inclusive digital India.
Shri Awadhesh Kumar, Pr CCA, DOT, TN LSA, Chennai addressed the gathering and explained how 5G changed the way we think and work. He has also mentioned how 5G enhanced user experience by connecting new enterprises and innovation of new applications.
Shri Syed Tausif Abbas ITS, Pr. Advisor (B&CS), TRAI, New Delhi addressed the in the seminar and explained the importance of 5G Technology and use cases in different sectors and mentioned that around 400,000 Base stations of 5G deployed in India so far. He had also mentioned importance of using Fixed Wireless technology (FWP).
Shri. S. Parthiban ITS, DDG (Rural), DOT, TN LSA participated as chief guest and delivered key note address. He has explained about the importance of Right of Way (RoW) permissions for faster rollout of 5G network and laying of Optical Fiber cable etc.. and Department of Telecom launched “Gati shakti” portal for enhancing coordination between local bodies and TSP for speedy provision of ROW permissions.
In the seminar, Shri Syed Tausif Abbas ITS, Pr. Advisor (B&CS), TRAI, New Delhi gave presentation on “5G Technology, Use cases in various sectors” from TRAI perspective, Shri Brajendra Kumar ITS, Advisor, TRAI, Bengaluru gave presentation on “Integration of satellite in 5G network”, Shri Govindan Ramalingam, Deputy CTO, Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd, Tamilnadu, Shri Suresh Kumar Injumuri, RAN Head, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Tamilnadu, Shri. Chakrapani Kakumanu, Radio sales solution Manager, Nokia Solutions and Networks India Private Ltd., Mr. Jagdeep Walia, General Manager-Technology and Security Consulting, Ericsson India on “Development of 5G use cases in various sectors and Network security” from Industry perspective, Shri. R. Babu Srinivasa Kumar, DDG (SC&HQ), NCCS, Bengaluru On “5G Network security Standards, testing & certification”, Shri Sudhakar. S, DDG (Technology), DOT, TN LSA “on Information Security Management Systems - Requirements and Audits” and Shri. Radha Krishna Ganti, Associate Professor, IIT Madras on “Introduction of the 5G testbed and learning’s”.
Around 100 participants attended the seminar who gained a lot of insight through the proceedings and it was an important step in highlighting the deployment of 5G Technology and Network security in the country.
The participants were Government officers from DoT, BSNL, AAI, NIC, Railways, Doordarshan, BHEL, SAIL, CPCL, Chennai Metro Rail Limited, RBI and also representatives from Industry organizations, Consumer Advocacy Groups (CAGs), all TSPs etc. attended the seminar and benefitted from the engaging discussion/interaction during the seminar.
After every session, clarifications were given for the queries of the participants.
The program ended with vote of thanks by Sri K.V. Suresh Babu, Joint Advisor, TRAI RO, Hyderabad.
