Union Minister of Development of North-Eastern Region & Ministry of Cooperation B L Verma today attended a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra event organized at Thiruvangoor, Kozhikode. During the programme, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (VBSY) via video conferencing. In the event organized in Kozhikode, the participants witnessed the live webcast of the programme.
In his inaugural address, Union Minister B L Verma said that the Union Government succeeded in bringing about a comprehensive development of the country over the past nine years that the nation couldn’t achieve in 60 years of post-independence rule.
The Union Minister pointed out that the Jan-Dhan Yojana, which facilitated even the poor in the country to open zero-balance accounts, is a classic instance of this. Earlier there was a situation when various financial assistance being extended by the government failed to reach the intended beneficiaries due to middlemen. But today, welfare benefits are directly credited to the Jan-Dhan accounts, putting an end to corruption, the minister said.
The entire country has witnessed unprecedented growth through schemes like Mudra Yojana, Awas Yojana, and Ujjwala Yojana, the minister reflected, adding that such development initiatives of the Central Government brought in rapid progressive changes in Kerala as well. Shri Verma added that nearly 32, 000 poor families in Kerala were provided with houses under the P M Awas Yojana. Similarly, arrangements were made to provide clean drinking water to 36 lakh houses in the state as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The Union Minister said the Modi government aims to transform the nation into the most developed country in the world in the next 25 years. The government is functioning with a focus on the upliftment of youths, women, farmers, and the poor. Verma exhorted the people in the state to take up and make the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, being rolled out to ensure the reach of benefits of development and welfare schemes of the Central Government to all, a success.
As part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana scheme in Chemanchery panchayat were provided free gas connection. The farmers in the panchayat were honored during the function. An awareness class was held for the farmers under the leadership of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Canara Bank Deputy General Manager Toms Varghese, Ward member Rajesh Kunnummal, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Director Radhakrishnan K P, Lead Bank Manager Muraleedharan T M, and Adv V K Sajeev attended the function.
Stalls of various government departments were set up as part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra campaign.
