RBI Gangtok organises Investor Awareness Workshop for college students

In a concerted effort to foster economic development and Financial Inclusion, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) continues to prioritise financial literacy and education.

This initiative underscores RBI’s commitment to reaching diverse segments of society, including students, women, Self Help Groups, farmers and senior citizens. Financial Literacy, a cornerstone of education prepares students to navigate the complexities of the financial world with confidence and competence. Investing in Financial Literacy and Education for students, RBI aims to empower future citizens to make informed decisions, manage their money responsibly, and contribute to the economic prosperity of the nation.

As a part of its ongoing Financial Literacy Inclusion endeavour, the RBI Gangtok conducted an Investor Awareness Programme in Sikkim Government College for Nursing, Gangtok on December 07, 2023, attended by 80 students and faculties.The programme aimed to equip them with essential financial knowledge and its responsible management.

A team from RBI Gangtok, comprising of Shri Kishore Pariyar, Regional Director; Shri Rahul Verma, Manager; Shri Abhishek Pradhan, Assistant Manager facilitated the programme.

Shri Kishore Pariyar, Regional Director, elucidated the vital functions of RBI and informed the audience about Financial Literacy and Cyber Awareness programmes conducted by RBI. Shri Pariyar encouraged the participants to inculcate responsible habits of savings and thereby promoting the financial well-being of the nation as a whole. He further also delivered a concise presentation on Retail Payment methods, cyber frauds, and their modus operandi.

Shri Rahul Verma, Manager gave a brief presentation on “RBI Banking Ombudsman Scheme” and RBI’s Complaint Management System (CMS) portal. Further, he informed the students on how to lodge complaints through the CMS portal, empowering them to address financial grievances effectively.

Smt Prem Kumari Tamang, Principal-in-charge, Nursing College appreciated the awareness programme by RBI. She expressed further that the workshop immensely benefitted the students and faculties.
