Under PMMSY Central funds amounting to Rs. 179.52 crore has been released to Maharashtra- Union minister of FAHD Shri Parshottam Rupala

The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India under its flagship scheme namely “Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)” inter-alia provides financial assistance for livelihood and nutritional support for traditional and socio-economically backward, eligible active marine and inland fishermen families during the fishing ban in both marine and inland states. During the last financial year (FY- 2022-23) the Department of Fisheries, Government of India under PMMSY has accorded approval to the Government of Maharashtra proposal for providing livelihood and nutritional support to 2000 households during the fishing ban/lean period.

PMMSY encompasses inclusive development of women and women headed household are also envisaged as stakeholders in fisheries development and its economic activities. Under PMMSY, wherever direct beneficiary oriented i.e. individual/group activities are undertaken by the entities of the Central Government including National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), central assistance up to 60% of the unit/project cost for Women beneficiaries are being provided belonging to General, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories.

The PMMSY inter-alia, supports development of Integrated Modern Coastal Fishing Villages with an aim to maximize economic and social benefits to coastal fishers while minimizing environmental degradation through sustainable fishing practices. Detailed Project Report proposal on Modern Coastal fishing Villages under PMMSY from the Government of Maharashtra has not yet been received. However, under PMMSY, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, during the last three financial years (FY 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23), and current financial year (2023-24) has approved fisheries developmental proposals of the Government of Maharashtra amounting to Rs. 1113.44 crore with central share of Rs. 417.43 crore and Central funds amounting to Rs. 179.52 crore has been released to Maharashtra.

This has been stated by Union minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Parshottam Rupala in Lok sabha today, in reply to an unstarred question by Shri. Vinayak Raut.
