In an endeavour to improve punctuality by real-time monitoring of trains which will help in planning the optimal path of any train to achieve the desired result of train movement as per proper schedule of time, Eastern Railway (ER) has completed installation of Real-time Train Information System (RTIS) in 349 locomotives till date. In October, 2023 as many as 32 locomotives in ER were fitted with such Real-time Train Information System (RTIS).

 Among these 349 locos installed with RTIS, 167 belong to Electric Loco Shed at Howrah, 115 to Electric Loco Shed at Asansol, 30 at Sealdah Loco Shed, 20 at Barddhaman Diesel Shed, 14 at Howrah Diesel Shed and 3 at Jamalpur Diesel Shed so far.

This Real-time Train Information System (RTIS) improves operational efficiency and quality of passenger information. RTIS enables Train Controllers to easily track the location, speed and timing of arrival and departure of trains. The system would benefit the passengers to plan their journey conveniently based on the real-time information available in the National Train Enquiry System (NTES).
