BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS, CHENNAI BRANCH OFFICE ORGANIZED DISCUSSION WITH STAKEHOLDERS [MANAK MANTHAN] ON “ SPACE STANDARDS” AT ISRO - SRIHARIKOTA TODAY

Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hallmarking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.

BIS has started organizing new series of discussion-programmes titled “Manak Manthan” for the benefit of industry which is scheduled on every month, and is envisaged to launch new standards and share important revisions / amendments and wide circulation drafts to local manufacturers, Industrial and Trade Bodies, Chambers of Commerce, Industry Associations, PSU’s or organizations who use such products, Government departments, Regulatory bodies, Laboratories, Civil society groups and Academia.

In this regard, Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office Organized the BIS - Manak Manthan Programme on "Space Standards ” at ISRO Sriharikota TODAY (08 Nov 2023, Wednesday). 

Smt.G.Bhavani, Scientist-E / Director & Head (Chennai Branch Office) explained the Programme Objectives and Delivered the Welcome Address. Shri USP Yadav, Scientist-F & Deputy Director General (Southern Region), Chennai delivered Keynote Address. Shri A Rajarajan, Director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre -SHAR, Sriharikota was the Chief Guest of the Programme.

Space standards lays the foundation for interoperability, risk mitigation, and the successful execution of missions, regardless of their nature or scope. Whether it is launching satellites, establishing space habitats, conducting scientific research, or engaging in interplanetary exploration, adherence to well-defined standards enhances mission reliability, minimizes conflicts, and maximizes the potential for ground breaking discoveries. These standards are the guiding stars that navigate our space endeavors towards success and safety. They ensure that every facet of our space missions, from launching space vehicles to satellite technology, adheres to the highest benchmarks of quality, reliability, and interoperability. By embracing these standards, we not only fortify the foundation of our space industry but also position ourselves as a global leader in space exploration.

Shri L Dhinesh Rajagopalan, Scientist-C/Deputy Director, Chennai Branch Office explained the activities of BIS, recent standards launched and the latest initiatives of BIS including e-BIS & BIS Care App and Shri P.V Srikanth Scientist-D/Joint Director & Head Transport Engineering Dept, New Delhi conducted the technical session on space standards.

More than 68 participants of the subject matter attended the programme from ISRO.
