Scientist Dr. Manguesh Uttam Gauns Elected as Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)

Dr. Manguesh Uttam Gauns, Senior Principal Scientist and Head of the Biological Oceanography Division at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), has achieved a significant honor by being elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI). NASI, founded in 1930 by a group of renowned scientists under the leadership of Prof. Meghnad Saha, is one of India's oldest and most esteemed science academies.

Dr. Gauns' election as a Fellow of NASI is a testament to his remarkable contributions to the field of marine biodiversity and biogeochemistry in the northern Indian Ocean (NIO). His comprehensive studies have illuminated the intricate interplay between bio-physical coupling, seasonal changes in food web dynamics, and carbon cycling in the marine ecosystem.

With specialization in ecology and ecosystem functioning, productivity and trophic dynamics, marine biodiversity-biogeochemistry, and climate change, Dr. Gauns has left an indelible mark in the scientific community. He has authored over 100 papers in both national and international journals and has been a guiding force for 6 PhD students, with 6 more presently under his mentorship.

NASI is one of the three National Science Academies in India, receiving financial support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi. Additionally, it holds the recognition of a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.
