National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD) Kolkata celebrated World Occupational Therapy Day today. The theme of this year is Unity through Community. The event aims to promote Occupational Therapy's role in working together with others to facilitate participation and community interaction.

This event witnessed a series of activities performed by students, professionals and PWDs that including videography competition, Photography competition, Dumb charades, Extempore, Model display, Street play, Awareness video played related to success stories of Divyangjan and alumni and cultural programme to sensitise and increase the information and role of Occupational Therapy in rehabilitation for Divyangjan/patients.

                                       

The programme started with street play. Students displayed their creativity and understanding about the role of occupational therapists in rehabilitation of Divyangjan (PwDs). Participants highlighted the role of Occupational Therapy in rehabilitation of Divyangjan/patients to keep active and manage their symptoms to lead normal life through rehabilitation programme building strength, stamina, mobility, daily living, leisure and schooling.

At the end, a cultural programme was also organised by the Occupational Therapy students and prizes along with certificates distributed to the winners.

Dr. Abhishek Biswas, Dy. Director (Technical) and Dr. Ameed Equebal, Assistant Director (Training) spoke about the importance of Occupational Therapy.

The programme was  coordinated by Shri Jeetendra Mohapatra, Lecturer (OT). Total 200 participants including students, professionals, staff and Divyangjan and patients participated in the event.
