School of Law, Pondicherry University organized a Special Lecture on Ancient Indian Law. Prof. Victor Anandkumar Dean (i/c), School of Law, Pondicherry University formally welcomed the gathering. 

 

Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gurmeet Singh delivered the Presidential address. He spoke about the significance of law and highlighted the demand for law professionals. Prof. Singh emphasized on the need to know and understand the roots of our ancient laws. Prof. Tharanikarasu, Director Studies felicitated the gathering.

 

The Chief Guest Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma, Judge, High Court of Uttarakhand delivered the special lecture on ‘Ancient Indian Law’ wherein he elaborated the features, the uniqueness and the significance of Vedhas (Srutis) and Smritis and the significance of customs. Justice Bharati also spoke about the significance of Vedas comparing with the provisions in the Smritis and highlighted the need to understand the roots of the system and how these Vedas still play an important roles as great sources of law.

Dr.Gurminder Kaur, Head (i/c) proposed the formal Vote of thanks. Senior officers and Faculty members, Students, Research Scholars, teaching and non-teaching staff of Pondicherry University attended the lecture.
