World Standards Day (WSD) is celebrated all over the world on 14 October to commemorate the work of Engineers, Technocrats, scientific members in the field of Standardization and establishment of International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

On 9th Oct 2023, a day-long programme was conducted by BIS Madurai Branch Office at Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering and Technology. Karaikudi. Dr P.K.PALANI, Principal, Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering and Technology presented the presidential address. Presentation on BIS overview and Sustainability Development goals (SDGs) was presented by BIS officials. Street play on importance of buying ISI marked goods was conducted by students of civil engineering discipline students. Quiz, Essay writing and Debate competitions were conducted. 200 students from various disciplines of engineering participated in the events, 50 students also registered as volunteers (Manak Mitra) initiated the Youth to youth connect campaign in various colleges in Karaikudi for creating awareness on BIS, SDGS and BIS CARE app.

The aim of WSD is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of Standardization in context to Global economy. As part of the WSD celebration called as MANAK MAHOTSAV, BIS organizes various activities all over India on a central theme determined by ISO, Accordingly, this year's theme is "SHARED VISION FOR A BETTER WORLD.

ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS".

BIS Madurai is conducting Youth to Youth Connect Campaign in 11 districts from 09.10.2023 to 12.10.2023 wherein day long programs and competitions are arranged in colleges. College students can participate in competitions and win cash prizes. The Manak Mahotsav ends on 13.10.2023 wherein a Standards Conclave is organized at Courtyard By Marriott, Madurai.
