The Zonal Office of the Director General of Foreign Trade in Chennai observed the Swachhta Hi Sewa and conducted a mass cleanliness campaign in the busy Haddows Road in Chennai. The foot over bridge which is a very busy and useful crossing for the resident and office goers of Haddows road was cleaned fully along with the nearby Bus stand. It was repaired,  cleaned, fully swept, dusted and sanitized. The place wore a visible fresh and clean look after the cleanliness drive, which was well appreciated by the public.

The campaign was led by Mrs. Rajalakshmi Devaraj, IDAS, Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, Chennai. Ms. F.D Initha, Joint DGFT also participated along with more than 50 officers and staff of the DGFT Chennai The  members of the public as well as family members/ children of the staff joined hands and carried out the cleanliness drive. Shri R.P Singh, Additional Commissioner, CESTAT along with his staff joined the campaign on the invitation of the Zonal Office and helped in cleaning the Location.

The Government officers enthusiastically joined hands with members of the public cleaned the foot over bridge, its surroundings including public toilets, the bus stands and even repaired and replaced a step in the bridge which was damaged with a new plank. Old banners, fallen tree branches were also cleared along with throwaway plastics and bottle. The foot over bridge was not only cleaned, but also made ready for use.  The officers also campaigned with the members of the public and created awareness about maintaining the area clean. The Zonal Additional DGFT thanked all those who had participated in the drive and encouraged all those who were present to practice cleanliness in the public areas/common areas a part of their daily life. She also exhorted to educate the public about the necessity for a clean Nation, which would eventually help the Nation prosper.
