An expedition to Mount Bhagirathi-II (6,512 m) was flagged off by Vice Adm Sanjay Bhalla, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command (WNC) by handing over the ceremonial ice axe to team leader Commander Kokila at a flag off ceremony held at HQWNC, Mumbai on 12 Sep 23.
The 21-day long expedition comprising 15 personnel (06 Officers & 09 Sailors) is aimed to summit the peak on 30 Sep 23 and unfurl the new Indian Navy ensign as a tribute to the Naval team which perished on Mt Trishul two years ago at the same time after getting trapped in an avalanche.
Mt Bhagirathi-II, at an altitude of 6,512 m, has a challenging gradient. It is a recognised expedition peak by Government of Uttarakhand for technical climbing, which offers numerous challenges to the climbers.
