Special events across Maharashtra to mark Chandrayaan-3’s landing on the lunar surface

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s third exploratory lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the lunar surface on Wednesday, 23rd August. To mark the occasion, various organizations have planned special events.

NFDC - National Film Archive of India, Pune, and NFDC- National Museum of Indian Cinema, Mumbai,  are organizing a live screening of the landing of Chandrayaan 3 at the NFDC-NFAI theater on Law College Road and at the JB Hall in NFDC-NMIC on Pedder Road, Mumbai. The events will be hosted at the NFDC-NFAI and NFDC-NMIC campuses from 5pm on Wednesday, 23rd August and the live screening will commence at 5:27pm.

Eminent educators from Pune including, Dr Arvind D Shaligram, Hon. Director, Department of ISRO : University of Pune, various colleges and coaching centers are expected to be at the event at NFAI. Students from across the city have shown tremendous enthusiasm to be a part of this event. In Mumbai, the event at NMIC will be attended by students and Mumbaikars from all walks of life.

Nehru Science Centre Mumbai is also all set to host a series of captivating programs to celebrate the historic landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the moon. The festivities will commence with an intriguing workshop from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, focusing on the intricate art of crafting Chandrayaan 3 paper model. This workshop has generated significant interest, with a keen enrollment of 50 enthusiastic students eager to participate and create their own paper models of Chandrayaan 3.

Following this immersive session, the Centre has curated a fascinating interactive program scheduled from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Professor Mayank N Vahia, Former Scientist, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, will offer profound insights into the Chandrayaan 3 mission, enriching attendees with contextual knowledge and valuable information in this session. Moreover, attendees will be treated to a live streaming of the Chandrayaan 3 mission in the Centre's auditorium, an opportunity seldom experienced. The remarkable response to this event is evident in the impressive registration count of approximately 400 participants.

The Raman Science Centre and Planetarium, Nagpur will host a lecture by Dr. G Sreenivasan, Scientist-Engineer, Regional Remote Sensing Centre (Central) – ISRO, Nagpur from 11 am to 12 noon. This will be followed by a demonstration of Pragyan Rover Model in the SOS theatre along with a show on special features of the moon from 12 to 12:45. The Chandrayaan landing will be telecast live in the evening 5 o clock onwards.

If this mission achieves a soft landing, India will be the fourth nation in the world to successfully land on the Moon and the first to reach its southern pole. This is a historic moment for India and one that needs to be celebrated.
