Y20 Summit under G20 hosted by Department of Youth Affairs, Government of India from 17th to 20th August, 2023, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh


More than 125 delegates from 29 countries and 13 international organizations to attend the summit

India assumed the G20 Presidency on 1st December, 2022 for a period of 1 year i.e. upto 30th November, 2023. India’s theme for its presidency is enshrined in its civilisational value system of “Vasudeva kutumbakam’” which translates to the world is one family. Hence, the theme for G20 Presidency of India: 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'.
Under the overall framework of G20 Presidency, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India has been entrusted with the responsibility to organize Youth20 (Y20) Summit-2023. 
Y20 is one of the official Engagement Groups of the G20 for organizing discussions pan-India. Y20 provides a platform for youth to express their voices and ideas on G20 priorities. The 5 identified themes of Y20, 2023 are as under:
Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills
Peace Building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War
Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life
Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance 
Health Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth

The Y20 Summit which is being organized in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh from 17th to 20th August, 2023 will bring together leading experts, decision makers, national and international delegates/ representatives from G20 countries, Knowledge Partner (IIM Raipur), academic partners (Universities / institutions) to negotiate, finalize and signing the Y20 Communiqué created from the conclusions of our discussions from past few months. 


This Y20 Communiqué will showcase the substance of our common vision across the five identified themes and will make sure that the voices of young people are heard by those who makes the highest-level decisions on policy.
The Summit will also provide youth a global perspective on current themes to become aware of new opportunities, builds self-confidence and self-esteem, allows an opportunity to interact with Indian policy-makers and make suggestions, encourages youth to think constructively about local problems, builds perception that youth are active agents not passive recipients of knowledge and interaction with mixed group to build networks.
Further, it will provide Indian knowledge institutions a perspective on value of international consultations and forces them to be aware that world outside can affect us, gives them hands-on experience for organizing consultations. 
The Curtain Raiser Event of Y20 on 16th August, 2023 was graced by Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh, Director (Dept. of Youth Affairs); Shri S. Rajalingam (I.A.S.), District Magistrate, Varanasi; Anmol Sovit, Y20 Chair and Shri Prashant Kakkar (IIS), M&CO- PIB, Varanasi.
The Y20 Summit will also be graced by Shri. Yogi Adityanath, Hon’ble Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, and dignitaries. This Summit will provide opportunities for collaboration and networking with other stakeholders and contribute to the development of young people. All relevant stakeholders are expected to take advantage of this opportunity to learn, network and engage with one another.
The Y20 Summit will involve active participation of delegates which will turn the event into a meaningful and exciting Y20 Summit during India’s G20 Presidency.
