19th Convocation at National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli

In the Diamond Jubilee year of National Institute of Technology – Tiruchirappalli, the 19th Convocation was held on the 28th of July 2023 in Barn Hall. 2155 students graduated in a grand ceremony which was declared open by the Chairperson Board of Governors Shri. Bhaskar Bhatt. The Director of NIT Trichy Dr. G. Aghila presented the report which emphasised on the great academic and research achievements that NIT Trichy bagged through the hard work and commitment of faculty, students and staff. Her report focussed also on the implementation of NEP 2020 and the strategic plan that the institute has developed for ensuring the global competence of the institute while being locally significant and impactful. She presented the statistics of growth and stated the ways in which the institute retained its first rank among all NITs in the NIRF ranking again in 2023.
The Chairperson Board of Governors Shri Bhaskar Bhatt then addressed the graduands. He expressed his happiness in NIT Trichy being able to provide the state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities to all stakeholders by continuously monitoring the international standards that the institute nurtures. His address also focussed on various aspects of NEP 2020 being implemented gradually at NIT Trichy.
Shri Soumitra Bhattacharya, Former Managing Director Bosch Ltd, as well as the Regional President of the Bosch group addressed the graduands on leadership skills that one should cultivate without compromising the value system that education aims to foster. He emphasised that in a world which is fragmented by geopolitical crises and when global anxieties surge up, the world look upto the youngsters who will be engaging in building an environment that is conducive for a symbiotic existence. As educated young professionals, he iterated that, there is a great responsibility for them and for all to create autonomy by removing any impediments in the paths. One should be willing to fight against all odds and achieve excellence. There should always be enthusiasm kindled for new learning and to embrace opportunities. As he emphasised on learning and unlearning, he also focussed on how one should also be willing to learn from one’s own mistakes and to nurture a culture of innovation. The chief guest also focussed on the importance of collaborating regardless of various hierarchies to focus on the outcome and by using feedback on a continuous basis to ensure quality improvement. Shri Bhattacharya also mentioned how important it is to have ethics, empathy and trust as an integral part of the corporate governance.
Following the formal conventions of the graduation ceremony, the Heads of various departments presented the graduands and the Director conferred degrees on them. The medal winners and undergraduate students were awarded the degrees in the forenoon session. A total of 44 B.Arch. and 1090 B.Tech. students were awarded the undergraduate degrees by the Director. The prestigious President’s Medal for overall highest CGPA was received by J. Soundarya of B. Tech. Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. Institute medals were received by 9 B.Tech., 1 B.Arch., 23 MTech., 1 M.Arch., 4 MSc., 1 MCA, 1 MBA and 1 MA graduands. After conferring the degrees and medals, the Director asked the graduates to take their pledge. The president medal winner read out the pledge and graduates took the oath. The Chairperson then signed the Record of Degrees given to him by the Dean Academic and the Registrar. Following this, the Chairperson declared the convocation closed.
