Health infrastructure in Maharashtra to become stronger as Supplementary Budget under NHM for Maharashtra for FY 2022-24 approved- Union Minister of State for health and Family Welfare Dr Bharati Pawar


Number of Public Health Specialists, Medical Officers, Staff Nurses and others to go up in Maharashtra for FY2022 to 2024

The Ministry of Health &Family Welfare approved the Supplementary budget in the Programme Implementation Plans for Maharashtra today. The Supplementary approval of Rs. 652.13 Cr for FY 2022-23 and Rs. 1618.54 Cr for FY 2023-24 is approved for Maharashtra.  This was informed by Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Dr.Bharati Pravin Pawar.

The Health Ministry under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh.Narendra Modi and guidance of Hon’ble Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has continued to allocate more funds to strengthen the National Health Mission (NHM). MoS Dr. Pawar thanked the minister for allocating more funds to Maharashtra.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had continuously followed up with the Union Health Ministry to make health services more efficient. Health Minister of Maharashtra, Tanaji Sawant also met Dr. Bharti Pawar asking for making special provisions of funds.

To strengthen the health care systems, the Ministry has approved additional new posts for Public Health Specialist, Medical Officer, staff nurse and other staff in Maharashtra under National Health Mission. Many new posts have also been recommended by the Ministry under National Urban Health Mission to meet health care needs of the urban population with the focus on urban poor, by making available to them essential primary health care services and reducing their out of pocket expenses for treatment.

Public health is a state subject, the primary responsibility to ensure payment of salary of human healthcare professionals including contractual employees lies with the respective State/UT Governments including Maharashtra.

Under the National Health Mission (NHM), Government of India provides financial and technical support to States/UTs to strengthen their health care systems for provision of equitable, affordable healthcare to all its citizens based on requirements posed by the States in their Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).

NHM support is provided for provision of a range of free services related to maternal health, child health, adolescent health, family planning, universal immunization programme, and for major diseases such as Tuberculosis, vector borne diseases like Malaria, Dengue and Kala Azar, Leprosy etc.

Other major initiatives supported under NHM include Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK), Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakaram (RBSK), implementation of Free Drugs and Free Diagnostics Service Initiatives, Mobile Medical Units (MMUs), Tele-consultation services, Ambulance services, PM National Dialysis Programme and implementation of National Quality Assurance Framework in all public health facilities of all states/UTs including Maharashtra.

Under the National Health Mission (NHM), support is provided to States/UTs to augment health human resource on contractual basis including support for in-sourcing or engagement of doctors, specialist doctors and other health professionals for provision of equitable, affordable healthcare based on requirements posed by the States in their Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).
